This is a group project where we were tasked to design a key fob for the current model of the  Ariel Atom as well as this we had to design what we imagine to be used as a key in the future models of the Ariel Atom. 
The ‘now’ key fob had to be designed ready for manufacture. We had to include a PCB, battery, a button and a key in the design. This added elements to the design that weren’t required as the current key fob for the car is just an immobilizer chip in a plastic fob. 
As part of our research we asked members of an owners club on Facebook their opinions, this helped us gain insights that influenced the sketches and concepts below.

Below are two concepts we initially created to get some feedback and see what looked most appropriate for the veichle.
We decided to develop concept 2 (shown above on the right) and our final design is shown below.
This is the final design for the ‘now’ fob, we included a PCB, battery and button that controls the alarm for the car as they are usually added by the owner. The key we included is based of a current design for a kill switch that is used to disconnect the battery from the car when its not in use. 
The product would be made from a polycarbonate main body, with 2mm wall thickness  and 1mm thick ribs. The outer frame and kill switch are made from cast aluminium which is then anodised. 

The sketches below were done as part of the future key fob design
The design below is the final design for our future key, the concept is a transferable immobilizer chip which can be transferred from a bracelet (as shown in the bottom left) to a helmet, driving gloves or goggles. The red portion of the wristband contains the chip and it is held in by magnets and the detail of the Ariel Atom logo that you can see below.

Shown on the below is another design for the future key which would be an app alone. It would have features to start the engine to warm it up and it would also track the location of the car.
