My task in this project was to analyse the product shown above and create my own alternative with improved features. These are the key features I wanted to add: a battery pack, a solid dust collector and a comfortable handle for all hand sizes.
After looking at other products on the market shown above I found that the biggest issue was definitely the handles on these products so I spent a lot of time creating my own alternative that would be comfortable, these are shown below.
I found when testing the handles that people with larger hands held a different way around to those with smaller hands, I decided to use this to the products advantage and to add a detachable sanding plate so that it could be used either way around.
Shown below is my final weighted model. It is bigger than the original however it has the added features that I identified the product would need at the start of the product.
These are some illustrator renders that I did for the product, it shows that the touch points are accented with orange to make it easy to understand for the user.
